Up next our bogey team, we always feel we should beat teams like Brighton but the bookies have Brighton at 1/2 and us at 19/4 so clearly with those odds we are the underdogs and reverse psychology says as we are the underdogs we could break our bogey

Thanks Charley - Those Brighton odds seem generous.....

This could be a real bump back to earth after Sunday. Brighton are the antithesis of Chelsea and could rip us a new one. Granted they've only played Luton and Wolves so far, but 5-1 and 4-1.....

It's still a mystery why our record is quite so bad against them (for the record- played 12 lost 6 drawn 6 won 0) but teams like that are absolute kryptonite to us in the way they set up and play.

Being fairly local to Brighton, I have quite a few Brighton supporting mates.

I used to look forward to this fixture......

I’ve been going since 1984 and last season was the most one sided game of football I’ve ever witnessed in any professional league with two teams from the same division

6.4 on the exchange currently. Will go off probably between 6.7. to 7.1 when the Asian money comes in because the stats we produce are so negative a lot will pile in

I will have a few quid on us but more out of loyalty

But I'll be happy to get away with a draw defending like it's Rourke's Drift and beating off the more energetic natives

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
As usual they have sold there best players and don't seem to have replaced them yet. On paper i would far rather have our starting eleven yet no doubt we will be ripped apart as usual.

They've got Billy Gilmour and Pascal Gross in midfield, James Milner at RB and Danny Wellbeck up top.

Hopefully JWP will get himself fired up for his old south coast derby enemy and we can right the wrongs of the last few years.

I don't think we will lose...

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Since Moyes return, he's had about £500mil worth of footballer in through the door. Yet we'll be going to Brighton, fucking BRIGHTON, who have probably spent about £4.60 in that same time, and we'll be sticking 10 men behind the ball, lobbing it up to Antonio on the odd occasion, hoping we are as lucky as we were against Chelsea.

That's current West Ham United. Might as well re-name us Set Piece United. I've heard a rumour we're looking at bringing in Steve Backley's son to provide 50 yard throw-ins.

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
As it was a good time to face Chelsea, it’s a bad time to face Brighton with their excellent form. For me, respect the you-know-what, even if it results in a defensive performance and low possession based. With the prospect of a possible home win against Luton on the horizon, two away draws and two home wins would not be a bad start to the season.

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Except we're away to Luton and we sit deep and have low possession almost every game. I don't think you've been paying attention LAF son.

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Are they a tin pot, absolute fucking joke of a football club? Yes. Will we beat them? Probably not. But after Sunday and possibly one or two more in this week we can go down there with some confidence and hopefully get something. And agree, that with Luton up next, who are basically a Sunday morning outfit, a point here would be a good result, obviously.

El Scorchio 6:37 Tue Aug 22
Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I get 'respect the point' if we're playing at the Etihad or Anfield maybe (still don't like it because we're just as likely to end up losing as if we showed some ambition) but talking about that when playing Brighton and Hove Albion is just really small time and cowardly.

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Mitoma will rip the Czech boys apart on current form. I'd be looking for faster more mobile players to put in and stifle them. We dont seem to be able to beat this mob. If we do it's a great start to the season points wise.

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Official Match Thread
We have progressed from last season so 3-0 to seagulls with us having 10% possession

Downes had a pop at Moyes about Moyes ball
